AST in the 2010 Shanghai Expo
AST has participated in the bioclimatic design and the wind generators design installed in the Air Tree of the Town Hall of Madrid in the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
The team at AST is proud to have collaborated with the architectural studio Ecosistema Urbano in the design of the bioclimatic system of the Air Tree for the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
The ventilation inside the Air Tree is produced by a large fan of 7.3m in diameter suspended in the centre of the structure at a height of 11.5m. Using a telescopic elevation system the fan can be raised or lowered bringing it closer to the visitors. The exact position and velocity at any specific moment is dictated by the surrounding thermal conditions, which are monitored in real time by a system of sensors located near the structure.
During the R&D phase of the project simulations using specific software and partial validations through testing with smoke on a prototype of 1/10 scale were undertaken.
Likewise, AST together with the company ZITRON, experts in ventilation systems, have collaborated in the design, manufacturing and testing of the five wind generators located on the upper part of the structure of the Air Tree. This microeolic generation system provides some of the energy needed for the functioning of different parts of the set up of the Tree, such as the fan of 7.3m in diameter and its telescopic arm or the system used to move the awnings.
